In 2004, ASC's Executive Director developed an idea to help
the employees of Auxiliary Services Corporation, who found themselves in undue financial hardship. The ASC Family Fund concept received approval in 2005, from the IRS, as a charitable organization.
ASC employees, vendors, SUNY Cortland students, and staff can make tax-deducible contributions to assist ASC employees with emergency financial situations. Many ASC employees work in entry-level food service and retail service positions, and do not have reserves in their budget to handle emergencies. This fund can assist when there is a fire or flood to a home, unexpected medical bills, death of a family member, when they are a victim of a crime, or other unexpected financial emergency.
In the past three years, the fund has raise $8,500 in contributions and has made several disbursements. Unfortunately, there is so much more need than the plan can assist with.
